We all know that we need to moisturize our skin. But, we sometimes forget that there are different types of moisturizers and each of work well for a specific type of skin. In this blog post, I share all the goods about natural moisturizers and what you need to know. Click to read more #greenbeauty #organicskincare #naturalproducts #glowingskin #beautifulskin
We all already know the importance of using moisturizers in our skin care routine; moisturizing your skin is one of the most important step in your skin care routine. But, there are a variety of moisturizers, it can be a little confusing to choose the best one for you.  Also, before we know it, winter will be around the corner and using a great moisturizer all year round especially during winter just goes a long ways.

So, in this blog post, I share with you all that I learned about moisturizing the natural way!!

 Different Types Of Natural Moisturizers

There are mainly four different types of natural moisturizers: gels, lotions, creams, and ointments. Even though moisturizers can be divided into these four categories, you need to keep in mind that they are all a mix of water and lipids (fat).

There are 6 types of natural moisturizers
Did you know that not all moisturizers are great on your skin type? If you want a glowing skin you need to use the right moisturizer. This blog post is all about natural moisturizers your skin needs. Click to read more #greenbeauty #organicskincare #naturalproducts #glowingskin #beautifulskin
#1: Gels
Gels are water-based lotions that are lightweight. They tend to be the least greasy and the lightest type of moisturizers. They easily absorb into skin and are usually a mixture of ingredients that include a liquid lipid base, alcohol, and water.
As soon as you apply the gel on your face, you will immediately feel a cool and refreshing sensation since gels tend to evaporate quickly. Gel moisturizers work well with sensitive skin and acne prone skin.

#2: Oil-free moisturizers
These moisturizers are similar to gel moisturizers. They are lightweight and do not clog the pores; they are generally non-comedogenic. They work great for acne-prone and blemish-prone skin.

#3: Facial oils or serums
You might not think facial oils and serums should be included here, but they are lightweight and packed with moisturizing ingredients. They work great for mature skin and sensitive skin. Facial serum are best for any types of skin; they are formulated to target a specific skin concern: skin brightening, aging sign concerns, and more. They are a mix of high quality oils and extracts that have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and hydrating properties. The molecules of facial serum have smaller molecules to deeply penetrate the skin.
Facial oils are different than facial moisturizers; they are made from various natural oils.  The molecules in facial oils are bigger than those in facial serums, so they stay at the top layers of the skin to moisturize, balance, and protect our skin. These oils are super effective because they are easily recognized by the skin; they mimic our skin’s natural sebum production.

I have always been curious about Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) because they use mixture of herbs to help the body and the skin function correctly. So, I was so excited when to take a class Sandra Lanshin Chiu about TCM at the WELL Summit last October in Brooklyn, NY. Sandra is an Acupuncturist, Chinese Herbalist, Skin Specialist, Treatment by Lanshin

Chinese Medicine in a very short nutshell -

Chinese medicine is about finding ways to live your life in a better way.

In TCM:
  • Herbs are primarily in this type of medicine.
  • It takes 4-6 months when using TCM for your skin to recover. TCM doesn't not relieve the symptoms; its goal is to restore and reestablish regular functioning of the organ. TCM focuses on blood circulation.
  • Puffy face might be due tension in the body. What we think is fat is sometimes just fluid stock. Try Facial Gua Sha at home watch the video here!
More about TCM -

TCM:
[ ] Amplifies or restores your skin's natural function.
[ ] Once you are treated for acne by TCM - you should not have it back. Eczema might come back, so it is in remission
[ ] Focuses on the internal root condition of your skin. It looks at the whole system to see if it functions well.
[ ] Chinese medicine read the skin.
[ ] You will hear a lot about "blood heat" and "toxic heat" in TCM. TCM looks at your blood systems and circulation
[ ] Identify various type of inflammation during treatment
[ ] Uses herbs and seeds are cooked to create treatments in TCM

To identify a good TCM practitioner, ask them: Do you test your herbs for toxicity? Is your facility FDA approved?

TCM and Rejuvenation of the skin -

We tend to think that having a skin problem has always to do with gut issues, but it is not always the case. It could be from the digestive system.

In Chinese medicine, your skin is your other lung. So the respiratory system is important. TCM does internal [Internal Therapy] and external medicine at the same time.

TCM also uses facial acupuncture to relax the muscles so you skin can go back to function well; it resets your skin.

I learned so much about TCM during this class and it makes me even more curious about it. Did you tried TCM? What do think?
