Avoid Regular Shampoos
Now, we see the same mainstream shampoo brands trying to incorporate natural oils in their shampoos and advertise the natural benefits of their products. But, their shampoos still contain potentially harmful chemicals such as SLS, propylene glycol, and ammonium chloride. The use of many of these chemicals have been restricted in several countries due to their toxicity.
Why use those mainstream shampoos when there are very effective natural alternatives that actually do not damage our hair or potentially have health concerns.
Several ingredients in Garnier fructis shampoo are ranked 7 and 8 on EWG (Environmental Working Group); it contains Sodium laureth Sulfate, a well known skin irritant. It also contains yellow 5 colorant; this colorant has been approved by FDA but several tests on animals have shown it can be toxic.
The US National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health describes Yellow 5 as human and animal carcinogen that is permitted at low level. I rather stay away from any type of carcinogen.
Andalou Naturals - sunflower and citrus shampo
One of the clean alternatives to potentially toxic Garnier Fructis shampoo is Andalou Naturals Shampoos. You can find Andalou Naturals Shampoos at your local Wholefoods or on Amazon; They are between $8 and $10.
The one I use is the sunflower and citrus . It is made of organic and natural ingredients; they also use fair trade ingredients, which is so important for me.
What I like about this shampoo , beside the organic and natural ingredients?
First, I love the citrus scent. This shampoo smells wonderful. It is also so gentle on my hair. Wow, my hair were so dry before I start using this shampoo. I notice my hair getting softer and stronger only after few using it few times. It gave my hair volume and texture. If you are like me and you don't like strong scent, this shampoo will work for you. The scent is not overpowering.
